The roots of the Mama Sosa project lie in Kanyama. This project is currently being conducted under the Speak up Zambia Project, which is funded by the European Union. The overall objective of the project is to empower young women in Kanyama to have a voice through the promotion of citizen journalism and use of mobile technology. More specifically, the project seeks to build capacity of young women in Kanyama to report about issues affecting their daily lives. Whilst at the same time raise awareness, within the Kanyama constituency and outside, of the position of women in Kanyama. Future ambitions of the project are to spread to other parts of Zambia and empower young women in Zambia to have a voice and tell the stories of other women and the communities they live.
